Purchased by Jack and Maxine Zarrow from Robert F. Nichols, Santa Fe, NM, March 26, 1992. This painting was one of four purchased at the time. The other paintings were by G. Kloss, G. Nailor, and Geronima Montoya. On a label glued to the dust cover: "Artist: Velarde, Pablita; ... Title of Painting: 'Mudhead'; Exhibitor: DLR; Class: IV; Tribe: Santa Clara; ...; Address: Scottsdale." On another label glued to the dust cover: "Pablita Velarde TSE TSAN (golden Dawn); Born: September 19, 1918 Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico; Awards: 1946 - 1965 DAM, ITIC, MNM, NMSF, PAC, and one Grand Award; Collections: Many public and private."
