Description:
A painting of the mask or head of a Long Hair Kachina facing left. The kachina is painted in black, turquoise, gray, red, yellow and brown against a mottled tan and brown background. The face of the mask is turquoise with black lines for the eyes and the mouth. Under the face, there is a red-and-yellow band with four gray feathers hanging down. The kachina's black hair is cut in bangs across its forehead and hangs down long in back. Long black hair forms a beard underneath the red-and-yellow band. There is a red-and-yellow medallion-shaped decoration at the top of its head and wedge-shaped feathers, pointing down, are attached to the back of the head.

Purchased by Jack and Maxine Zarrow at the Oke Oweenge Crafts Cooperative, San Juan Pueblo, NM, March 27, 1992. This painting is one of three of Ms. Montoya's paintings purchased at the time. The other paintings were "Deer in the Fall" (jmz.499) and "Rain Makers" (jmz.498).
