Abstract rainbird
Description:
An abstract painting done in black, brown, gold, turquoise, and white. A spiral figure (this shape is commonly used by Pueblo artists to depict a parrot) is located on the lower left (viewer's quarter of the painting). Above it, also on the viewer's left, is a series of four ribbon like arching figures. In the center of the top is a half circle that has the appearance of a half sun. The viewer's right side of the painting is filled in with geometric and pottery design forms.

Purchased by Jack and Maxine Zarrow at Gallery 10, Scottsdale, AZ, December 1, 1990. This painting was one of four purchased at the time. The other paintings were by C. Bahnimptewa, Julian Martinez, and Gilbert Atencio. Supplied by Gallery 10 in a letter of authenticity: "Pablita Velarde, 'Abstract Rainbird.' Acrylic on illustration board. Ex. collection Mr. and Mrs. Humlicek, Phoenix, AZ." On the dust cover: "'Abstract Rainbird'; Pablita Velarde; Feb. 1991; Acrylic on illustration board; Ex. coll. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Humlicek, Phoenix, AZ. Purchased from Gallery 10, Inc. AZ (David Stock)."
